Hopi · documented in the T.Skies hallmark reference library
Marlin Honhongva (born 1977) is a Hopi Katsina carver and jeweler working in a modernist approach and cobblestone jewelry. He is the son of Sherian Honhongva and the nephew of Charles Loloma.
His family connection to Charles Loloma — the Hopi jeweler widely regarded as one of the most influential Southwestern jewelry artists of the twentieth century — places him within a lineage of significant artistic influence. His mother Sherian Honhongva (born 1960; Hotevilla, Hopi) is also documented: she works in inlay and cobblestone jewelry and is a multiple award winner.
Cobblestone jewelry sets varied stones in irregular, rounded forms resembling natural cobblestones, creating a rich mosaic-like texture without the rigid geometric cutting of traditional inlay. The modernist orientation in both Marlin and Sherian Honhongva's work draws on traditional Hopi forms while extending them into contemporary expression.
The mark is an etched script signature: M Honhongva.
