Dan Platero (Navajo) is the brother of Ramon Platero, the husband of Agnes Platero, and the father of Don Platero (see Don Platero). He is one member of the extensive Platero silversmithing family — a major Navajo silversmithing lineage documented across many generations and branches in Hougart's hallmark record.
His son Don Platero (1954–; Navajo) became an accomplished silversmith in his own right, working in cast work, letter openers, and flatware. Don Platero won first prize for flatware at the 1996 Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. Don Platero's marks are DON M. PLATERO and Don Platero (with or without NAVAJO, in at least two script versions).
"Dan Platero (Navajo). Brother of Ramon Platero and father of Don Platero. Husband of Agnes Platero. Marks: [DP ligature]; D P/; DP" — Hougart, Bille. Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks, 5th ed. (2022), approx. p. ~23476.
The marks recorded for Dan Platero include a DP ligature (initials joined), D P/ (initials with a trailing slash or divider), and DP (plain initials). Initial-pair stamps are characteristic of Navajo hallmarking practice and require careful documentation to distinguish from other DP-initialed makers.
